Hello everyone

After a bit of follow up, we finally have some broad outline of the work schedule next door at 4 Challis Avenue. I've summarised below the message we received in response to our enquiries. I've asked them to let us know if there are any broad changes to the schedule. Sorry it's taken a while to get a response.

The saw works and hammer percussions in the necessary excavation of stone on the property finishes tomorrow. This work completes the most difficult element of the construction.

What remains then, into the new year, is the fabrication of concrete block work to a level to accommodate the reinforced concrete planter box. The likelihood is that between now and a few days before Christmas, a thin concrete slab will be laid across the newly excavated stone work, upon which the block work will later be built. So, up to Christmas, the only work to be had will be the thin slab laying, which should take a few days, but is unlikely to be noisy, as the excavation necessarily has been.

In the new year, probably beginning around 11 January, work will recommence on putting the block work together on the new slab which will then be hard enough to support it. That work, the block work, may take a few weeks to complete, leaving the general construction of the reinforced concrete planter box as the last major element to be formed up and poured.

It is difficult to be precise as the schedule of works but it is likely that the great bulk of it will have been put into place from around end January, running into February. How far into February is difficult to tell at this stage.

When we are in a position to have a clearer sight line on time scales, I am happy to let you know further. This is likely to be at or near the middle of January.

From now up to Christmas, the level of noise and percussion of the kind associated with the excavation work will have broadly ceased, though laying a slab of concrete will necessitate formwork and visits from concrete suppliers, which while somewhat noisy and noticeable, should not have the same ambient impact as works over the last two weeks.
